Preserved by the volcanic catastrophe, the treasures of this mystical “Prehistoric Pompeii” are revealed in situ with 4-dimensional time travel
simulation -using twenty-first century technology- offering an unforgettable experience.
In addition to the world-famous geological excavations, our geo- tourism site includes a Miocene forest, Canopy walkway, exhibitions, fascinating nature trails, and a unique playground with stork nests and wire-cable slides,
providing an ideal destination for family excursions.
The European Diploma-holding Ipolytarnóc Fossils is on the Tentative List of the World Heritage Sites. Being the main gateway to the
international, cross-border Novohrad -Nógrád Geopark, Ipolytarnóc gives insight into the past of the limitless Palóc landscape.
The protected area, which is managed by the Bükk National Park Directorate, welcomes visitors from March to October, with daily hours
from 09 to 16h, and closed on Mondays; Bank holiday Mondays are open gated.
